Public Housing Program

Public Housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development administers federal funds to local housing agencies, including Gallia MHA. Gallia MHA manages the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford.

Rent is based on your income. As a general rule, rent in Public Housing will not exceed 1/3 of your monthly gross income. A security deposit is required before moving into an apartment and you must be able to get utilities (electric and/or gas) transferred into your name.

Gallia MHA owns and maintains 144 rental units located in Gallia County:

Gallia Met. Estates – 100 Units

Offers 2, 3, 4, and 5 bedroom units
  • 12 Flats (3 handicapped units)
  • 44 Two bedroom units
  • 26 Three bedroom units
  • 16 Four bedroom units
  • 2 Five bedroom units

Rio Grande Estates – 40 units

Offers 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units
  • 2 One bedroom units
  • 22 Two bedroom units
  • 16 Three bedroom units

Since the demand for housing is high, when you submit an application you will be placed on a waiting list. The list includes all of GMHA’s properties. The length of time to obtain housing depends upon several factors one of which is the number of bedrooms you qualify for.
